Colorful sculptures made of polymer clay
Swedish artist Alisa Lariushkina keeps coming up with fascinating new techniques to work with polymer air-dry clay. She expertly sculpts a variety of Japanese air-dry clay into high-relief representations of lush, pastoral settings, drawing inspiration from legendary artists like Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet.
Lariushkina tells My Contemporary Met, “I’m a self-taught painter, and I’ve been using air-dry polymer clay for roughly six years in my own manner. “I shape every bit of clay by hand, and then I glue the parts altogether. I primarily create decorations and sculptures with an animal motif, and more lately, I began creating framed sceneries. Lariushkina shapes chunks of vibrant polymer clay into curving, wavy, and whirling lines with her sculpting instruments as opposed to painting them on with artistic brushes. She assembles these exquisite parts into a complex setting that is rich in depth and texture.
While some of these framed works are replicas of well-known artworks, others are unique creations drawn from her photographs and outdoor environs. Lariushkina recreates these natural locations in her distinctive way, transforming real-life settings into tactile dream worlds. In her clay universes, flowers are fragile, multi – coloured coils and clouds are solid, white dollops.
