Wonderful and colourful sculpture
Philadelphia is renowned for its street art, and a new magnificent work has recently been added. New artwork ContraFuerte was erected in Downtown Seattle by regional sculptor Miguel Antonio Horn. It depicts a twisted mass of people clutching to and holding up a little bridge connecting 2 floors. It was made for the city’s renowned % for Design Program. The artwork quickly gained popularity because to the 8 extremely lively creatures.
The response has astounded Horn, who is of Colombian and Venezuelan origin. Although Horn and the program’s financiers intended to reveal the artwork to the media in late September, a regional blog entry in August led to widespread distribution of pictures. For Horn, who has produced a significant level of public art in Philadelphia, it was a delightful surprise.
Aluminum plates that have been topographically cut out into every other shape are used to create them. Horn groups the individuals to create balance and harmony while maintaining the sculpture’s dynamic tension. It’s unknown to the viewer whether these individuals will prevail and maintain the structure’s stability or if they will be crushed under its weight. Horn decided to clarify some of the significant concerns affecting the world now while also leaving the artwork free to judgment when choosing how to address the area. In pursuing their place in the society, women, people of color, and immigrants “face the brutality, the fight, and the experience that I felt the need to express,” says Horn. “That was a message of defiance, and the alleyway was the ideal place for it.
“ContraFuerte has deeper-seeded questions that are emerging about our culture and the issues that we are currently facing,” the artist continues. It emphasizes the resilience of groups of people, striking a balance, helping one another, feminism, and the pain of speaking up.
The artwork was produced as part of the % for Design program, a more than 60-year-old Philadelphia effort that mandates that % of the cost for any residential development or significant modifications go toward location street art.
