Minimalistic metal sculptures
Lee Sangsoo, a Seoul-based artist, demonstrates that stunning pieces of art can be produced without being realistically accurate. Instead, he creates minimalist, surreal artworks by expertly bending, twisting, and coiling strips of spray-painted steel to represent the soul of various creatures.
Sangsoo’s approach may be straightforward, but his body of work demonstrates the range of its possibilities. He can make a variety of animals, like stretching Siamese kitties, pink flamingos, and poised macaws, with only a few metal components. The animal’s structure is effectively conveyed by the curled medium’s fascinating motion, which is very captivating to observe.
According to Sangsoo, who spoke to My Contemporary Met, “the picture is in a fictional space, but the statue is actual.” “The air is something you can see, touch, and feel. It lives along with humans. Making three-dimensional art is appealing because we live in a three-dimensional world. These subtle shapes are not only highly fun but also exquisite in their minimalism. Everyone seems to capture both the animal’s character and its form.
