Bronze sculptures that are androgynous capture the fluidity of the human body in motion

Wonderful bronze sculptures

Abstract Figurative Sculptures by Isabel Miramontes

The bronze composition of Isabel Miramontes’ artworks is not immediately apparent. The sculptor, who is of Spanish descent and resides in Belgium, finds the most fluid lines for her abstract creatures, catching each one in a fleeting period of activity that gracefully mixes with the surrounding negative space.

Before delving headfirst into sculpting in 1994, Miramontes got formal instruction in fine art at the Academy Saint Marie and the Fine Arts Academy of Saint-Gilles. Since then, she has explored a range of physical and emotional experiences in her distinctive works. Her figures, who resemble silhouettes, are global emblems of human experiences because they aren’t identified.

Owner of the Canfin Gallery Jean-Claude Canfin says of Isabel Miramontes’ bronze sculptures, “They have a primitive and basic character about them.” Her instantly identifiable unisex figures convey a story of calm certainty as well as the unavoidable fight of the average man, his challenges, and victories. With a distinct fluidity of motion and a metaphysical depth that is pervasive in her work, the statues bear the weight of mankind while wonderfully resisting their bronze beginnings.

The Canfin Museum in Tarrytown, New York, is where you may see Miramontes’ artwork in person.

In her realistic steel artworks, Belgian sculptor Isabel Miramontes portrays humans in action.
