The first underwater museum

MUSAN, the first underwater museum in the Mediterranean in Cyprus by Jason deCaires Taylor

Jason deCaires Taylor, an artist, is renowned for his amazing undersea galleries and installations. The first undersea museum in the Mediterranean is his most recent endeavour, the Gallery of Submarine Artwork Ayia Napa (MUSAN). The undersea woodland known as MUSAN is regarded as being home to stunning life that conveys a tale about its origins.

MUSAN, which is 200 metres off the shore of Aiya Napa, will undoubtedly increase tourism in the region. Divers and snorkelers can discover the forest’s abundance of trees, kids playing, and zany creatures nearby. The goal of this project, like all of deCaires Taylor’s creations, is to create a habitat for marine life as well as an amazing diving adventure.

To minimise a sculpture’s negative environmental impact, all of the substances used in its construction are pH neutral. The ocean life that has been decimated over many decades will have a new home thanks to these constructions. The artworks will eventually be coated in ocean biomass, which will serve as a haven for aquatic life. This implies that when marine life adjusts to the new artwork, the region will only get more exciting and brighter.

According to Marine Argyrou, head of the Program of Fisheries and Marine Research, “I genuinely think that Jason’s 93 artworks will be a home for many water species and will contribute to the growth of wildlife in the area.” “The undersea gallery will be a living aesthetic and ecological experience, with artwork mixing and changing over time with nature. I’m confident it will increase people’s awareness of the marine ecosystem and the need to conserve and safeguard our marine ecosystem.”
