What an amazing job
Gill is the name of the man, but everyone just refers to him as a cat person because he likely has the most enjoyable job in the world: feeding and caressing cats.
Gill Nanes is a veterinarian by trade and a longtime resident of New York City. She was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but has spent most of her life there. He has treated and petted innumerable kittens and cats, giving them a bit of his heart’s warmth in the process.
I’ve always wanted to work with animals and live in New York City, adds Gill. «And so, almost penniless but full of enthusiasm, I arrived here 17 years ago. My wish was realized.
While also enrolling in veterinary college, Gill started working as a veterinary assistant at a clinic for animals. By the time he graduated from college, Gill had come to the conclusion that cats were his one true calling. Gill presently oversees two animal hospitals in New York City.
In addition to providing cat care, Gill also adopts certain kitties. Four dogs and 14 cats are currently residing at his house.
Gill frequently shares images from his day at work as well as pictures of his animals on Insta. He just shared some pictures of himself with Kelly, a burned cat.
Kelly was saved from a fire, and we gave him burn treatment. Then a member of our team chose to adopt him after falling in love with him. I was relieved that Kelly had found a new home, but I also felt a twinge of sadness because I had grown extremely close to him during his therapy.
Nothing like curling up with warm, cuddly kittens after a long day at the office.
The cats that now call Gill’s house home weren’t just rescued from the streets; they also avoided being put to death. Because the majority of them were terminally ill or disabled, city institutions had deemed them unpromising in terms of getting them new families. By taking them in, Gill preserved their lives.
A lot of Gill’s time is spent playing and petting the cats. He thinks they require it in the same measure as medical attention and drugs.

“Seeing an animal begin to get better after all your hard work is the most rewarding thing of being a veterinarian,” says one.
