Lifelike animal sculptures made of metal and recycled items

Do you keep clutter in a locked drawer? While most people struggle of what to do with their scraps, England recyclable designer Barbara Franc uses hers to create works of art. She uses leftover home items and metal products to make great creature statues.

Franc uses very much every material she can get her hands on to create her creature statues, including cutlery, door knobs, and keys, as well as timepieces, bass guitar chords, and even dog lead clips. Franc informs My Contemporary Met, “I have a big closet at house filled of crates of unusual objects. ‘Most stuff I find just laying around and when I’m out in the park with my dog, some from trash stores or garage sales, and many things are presented to me by friends who know I gather pretty unusual things that most others would toss away,’ said the collector of many of the things.

Franc’s topics are frequently informed by the materials she uses. She says, “I start with an old metal washer or chain that might indicate a creature form to me. Franc constructs a crude wire framework first, after which he decides which “bits and pieces” will function best. It can be a lengthy process, she admits, “I might spend the entire day hanging stuff and then pull them all off next day to begin over.” I want to give each item the impression that it is about to go away.

Every one of Franc’s completed pieces flawlessly depicts the motion and character of the subject creature. Cats seem as curious, steel big cats with ears perking ears and swishing tails, and squirrels are positioned as though they are about to scamper off into the horizon.
